Project Background
The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) recognizes that human powered vehicles are important in underdeveloped or inaccessible parts of the world, or as a sustainable way of transportation. ASME holds annual challenge events in which engineering teams from universities design, build, and race human powered vehicles. The goal of the ASME challenge is to design and build an efficient and highly engineered human powered vehicle for everyday use. The ASME human powered vehicle challenge is a way to test the HPV team’s vehicle design and see if it holds up to strict performance and safety standards. Thus, the team will follow guidelines provided by ASME to build a HPV and compete in the 2017 HPV Competition. Meeting all competition requirements and having a high score in competition is an important goal in order for the team’s vehicle to be considered as a valid transportation alternative.
